Evilspeak Horror Magazine (Issue 1)

Does anyone else remember the periodical FACTSHEET FIVE? Each issue contained hundreds of synopsis, sometimes reviews, of magazines sent in. Perhaps more importantly it listed the address and price of the magazine. I'd pick up a copy, flip to the back where the horror and exploitation 'zine listings were located and circle all the entries that interested me. The next step was stuffing a few dollar bills into an envelope, mailing it off and waiting for the postman to deliver the 'zine.

EVILSPEAK is the type of 'zine I'd find a listing for in the back of FACTSHEET FIVE.

It is old school.

It is a 'zine created by those who love the horror genre.

It is a fantastic fuckin' read.

Don't expect glossy pages. Don't even expect colour, there's a bit of red on the front cover but otherwise it's all glorious black and white. Expect to read the musings of die hard fans wanting to regale the reader with an ode to the nearly forgotten film that they love. A few of the contributors I recognize from print and web sites; Jon Kitley (HORROR HOUND), Mark Jason Murray (SHOCKING IMAGES which I briefly wrote for) and Thomas Sueyres (THE VIDEO JUNKIE 'zine and web site) and it was a real kick to see them writing for this issue.

Included are a couple of interviews, Ulli Lommel, Heather Langenkamp and Amanda Wyss discussing A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, a touching tribute to Chas. Balum, a few capsule reviews and an overview of the horror comic GORE SHRIEK. The meat are the extended reviews / reminisces of everything from EVILSPEAK (yes, the 'zine is named after the Clint Howard film), to HORROR RISES FROM THE TOMB to CANNIBAL GIRLS.

Seventy-nine pages of gorgeousness and gorgeousity. Publishers Billy and Vanessa Nocera have given birth to a monstrously wonderful child.

Buy it.
